Nozzles
To optimise ships manoeuvrings Promac delivers nozzles in combination with propellers. Those nozzles will be designed and manufactured by van Voorden.
All nozzles are designed to aims the area of inland barges, tugs and fishery shipping especially, however the optimum profit in propulsive forces will been arranged by low speed manoeuvrings.
The nozzle is characterised by its slender, cambered profile that makes no concessions to the system diameter (outside diameter nozzle). A more slender profile with more curvature clearly improved the nozzle. Furthermore, proven calculations also shows that a larger discharge diameter would also improve efficiency.
The nozzle derives its high efficiency from an improved version of the existing nozzle, a circular wing around the propeller. The section profile of this wing generates a higher speed on the inside than on the outside of the nozzle and achieves its thrust through the pressure difference that this creates. Efficiency improvements in nozzle technology have up to now mainly been sought in increasing the system diameter with all the disadvantages that this entails, such as a correspondingly larger installation size.
In combination with a specially developed propeller, the nozzle has been used successfully in both inland shipping and the fishing industry. Ships fitted with this optimised combination appear not only to have an increase in thrust, but are also free of unpleasant vibrations and disturbing noises.

A propeller in combination with a nozzle offers a considerable benefit in:
- Thrust ;
- Fuel savings ;
- Improved speed ;
- Reduced noise and vibration;
Steel and stainless steel plates are used for the construction of the nozzle. In the interior of the nozzle all of the components are fully continuously welded from both sides. This method guarantees the reliability and durability that is such a characteristic of our products.
Nozzles and propellers are an optimum combination in co-operation with Van Voorden Foundry, also situated in Zaltbommel. Van Voorden designs and manufactures propellers and nozzles to optimise the total Promac steering equipment.
