Flake Ice
Flake Ice consists of small flat pieces of ice produced from fresh or salt water. It is used in concrete cooling, cooling seafood, in meat processing and in a whole range of industrial processes.
The most important application of flake Ice is in the area of fishery cooling, food industry and area's where temperature needs to been controlled especially in hot climates.
Flake-ice installations are designed to been feed by fresh water (sweet) and Seawater, however this two-way ice system will be used for fish cooling and storage. The installation consists of the following system-parts:

Flake Ice is free flowing, flakes do not stick together nor do they form blocks. Therefore it is easy to store and to handle. This type of ice it's moderate production costs, however very comparable to all other kinds of produced ice. How will Flake-ice be produced?
The principles of our flake-ice machine is a drum rotating in a water reservoir, connected to a refrigeration system. Like most refrigeration systems, a flake-ice machine has an evaporator too, namely the evaporator drum. Inside the drum evaporation of the refrigerant takes place with a temperature of - 28°C during running.
The outer layer of the drum has been made of a conductive material resulting in a low temperature which creates a freezing surface and the water will freeze directly onto the drum, removes the ice from the rotating drum. Once passed the scraper, the drum is fully free of ice and starts freezing immediately when it is submerged in water again.
The ice will grow during the full turn of the drum until it reaches the scraper again. Due to the constant rotation of the drum the ice making is a continuous process. The most common water supply, which is needed for the ice production, is customary tapwater or an external hydrophor plant.
An internal float-valve keeps the water level inside the reservoir of the machine. Our machine is also designed to use seawater as water supply, the use of seawater will result in a good performance too, although the structure of seawater ice is a little bit different.

Progression presently shows more and more changes in fishing methods like “Fly-shooters”. However, the cooling methods and procedures will changed too. Blast-cooling are offend used to this modern way of fish cooling. Not without standing the well-known Flake-ice installations becomes more and more replaced by the newly “Slurry-ice” installations indeed.
